Founded by Nobu Matsuhisa, Robert De Niro, and Meir Teper, Nobu is an international hospitality, dining, and luxury residential brand with a presence across multiple continents.
Luxury brand Nobu is set to open a new hotel at the Monte Rei resort in the eastern Algarve as part of an investment program led by Norfin, which also features a restaurant, villas, branded residences, and new leisure facilities, the companies announced today.
The project, with construction expected to begin in 2027 and opening planned for 2029, represents Nobu’s second location in Portugal. It will be developed at Monte Rei, a resort spanning over 400 hectares renowned for its Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course.
The upcoming Nobu Hotel will offer 100 rooms and suites, a signature restaurant, and a selection of guest amenities. The development will also encompass approximately 21,000 square meters of Nobu-branded villas and residences designed for both homeowners and visitors.
According to Norfin, the development forms part of a broader master plan for Monte Rei, encompassing investments in hospitality, residential real estate, leisure facilities, and future amenities, including a beach club.
Quoted in the release, Trevor Horwell, CEO of Nobu Hospitality, stated that Monte Rei brings together “a rare combination of natural beauty, privacy, and an established reputation for excellence in golf and residential offerings,” noting that the partnership with Norfin will help create “a truly distinct Nobu destination” in the eastern Algarve.
Also quoted in the statement, Miguel Mateus, CEO of Norfin, described the project as “an important milestone for Monte Rei,” emphasizing that the partnership will boost the resort’s international profile by introducing one of the world’s leading luxury hospitality brands.
The project design team includes DSA Architects and Rockwell Group—a long-standing partner of Nobu—which will handle the architecture and interior design.
